What's your favorite excuse?
"They (our customers) are really slow right now. The economy isn't really that good."
"There is so much anxiety about the election. That's probably why things are slow."
These are the attitudes of "losers." Losers are victims. Outside forces are always against them, thus any lackluster performance is justified in their minds. But if the loser begins to change his tune, and take accountability, he will soon become a "winner."
Losing sounds harsh, but it is not intended to be. Winners still lose when they strive for something worthwhile but fail to achieve it. The difference between winners and losers is the response to when a loss occurs. Winners learn from losing, as opposed to blaming the economy, the election, or the competition's low prices. Winners make adjustments, improve, work harder, and execute the next time.
And there is always a next time.
The months ahead will be feeding ground for excuse-makers (aka "losers"). Uncertainty will abound to the delight of those looking for excuses. Winners, on the other hand, will have to work harder in the midst of uncertainty. It will take hard work, but winning always does.
That's the difference.
